​Even though smart home devices have been around for many years, many manufacturers have recently made consumer products more affordable and have reached a much wider audience. The Internet of Things (IoT) is another name for this technology that brings devices together over an internet connection.Q:​ What are the benefits?
​Allen and Carol gained first-hand experience living many miles away from their Bald Head Island home. During that time, they began to install smart devices that they could monitor and adjust from their California home. Being able to adjust heating and air conditioning settings, turn on lights, answer the door, open the garage, and turn on/off the hot water heater gave full control of the home while being 2,000 miles away. This saved time and money, providing a return on investment faster than they could have imagined.Q: Is it expensive?
Due to the recent developments in consumer grade products, a smart home is much more affordable than ever before. Since the products connect over the internet, the need for costly in-wall wiring is eliminated.
Q: How long does it take to install?​
As long as your home has a good internet connection, most installations can be completed in a few hours.Q: Are smart home products hard to use?​
No. Anyone familiar with using a smartphone for calls, texts or other basic applications will be able to use the products. The BHI SmartHome team will assist you in choosing products that are right for your home and lifestyle. After we complete the installation in your home, we will provide personalized training on how to best use the applications on your phone, tablet or computer.Q: Does BHI SmartHome offer service and maintenance after the sale is completed?​
Yes. As full time residents of Bald Head Island, the owners of BHI SmartHome are able to respond quickly to customers even after the installation and training are completed. While most devices stay connected 24/7, there are times when a restart or re-connect is needed. It doesn’t happen often, but every now and then a device may need some attention.
